The report of egg-laying of red-eared slider, Kurumi 2017>

June 26
		She began to act for laying eggs this day. She came out from water container and walked all over the rooms with rumbling from the morning. She has a usual sign we can know that she begins the activity for egg laying soon.She wants to warm her body. It was the same as the red eared slider, Kamemi that we owned before. For example: * She goes out for basking and stays for a long time with her legs stretched and with her eyes half‐closed at the sunny spots * She tries to climb someone's body and warm her body by our body temperature. * She is pleased with warm water, and so on. I have noticed such signs about her for long also this time. So I just began to use a waterproof electric heating panel for pet under the container that she always spends during night, That warms her body and increases metabolism, and might lead to her activity for egg laying.
		She is acting wildly for laying egg. She tries to go outside from the narrow space. Kurumi has the habit of repeating going in and out of water container many times over when she is in acting for egg laying. And the surroundings of water container get damp soon. Her active period coincides with rainy season. So laundry of towels and mats for turtles doesn't get dry easily. So I always feel disgusted.
July 1
		Kurumi began to make a move as if she scratch on the floor. And I took her to nearby park after nightfall. We had moved on February. So it is the first time that we experience the time of Kurumi's egg laying. Our new address is in crowded area. We can't find quiet spots where have a lot of green anywhere in the neighborhood. It's deferent from the surroundings in our former address that there are some nice parks and an open space rich in natural nearby. At first, I try to take her the closest park where is several minutes walk from our home. I found a spot near our home like this in advance for preparing the time she will begin to act for the time being. It is the closest park where is several minutes walk from our home and it is an oasis to rest located at the entrance to shopping mall. There are grass-grow in parts and also park benches on the side though it is a busy place as you see. They are helpful for me to watch Kurumi sitting on it while she is laying eggs because it takes a long time. I selected here in my shoes But when I went to there with Kurumi, a man who played with his smart phone was sitting on the bench that I have my eyes on at that time.And It didn't seem that he left soon. So I took her the second closest park after then. But we felt nervous because of the noises of bumper-to-bumper cars and trains running by the park and street lights and lights from the commercial complex around there. Kurumi had experienced only the surroundings rich in nature like as only chirping of insects about noise and moonlight about lighting. So she must be surprised at that.I thought the biggest reason of it is surely that time is not ripe for her yet .And She only walked around even if I keep leaving her there more. So we returned home.
July 8
		The spring tide has come. She had laid eggs at the time of the spring tides with high probability so far. Though Kurumi usually lays eggs from the end of July to the beginning of August and so I thought it was a little earlier than usual. I tried to take her the park I wrote above and let her go at a grass- grown spot just in case. But she only walked around. She wouldn't dig there at all.After then I came to see her sunbathing more frequently than running there when she was at the balcony. Her appetite is rise, and she became completely quiet when the spring tide ended.It seemed the time was too early as I thought.
		We need to think about how to take measures for the time of egg lying at home again because of change of surroundings by moving this year. A lid of plastic case I used before is not enough to fill up the opening space at that boundary to next door because the width of divider plates in balcony is wider than them of previous balcony here. In addition to it, she wants to go to the other side when translucent plastic lid sets there. And She is interested in there no matter how many times I bring her back this year. As a measure, I changed it to wooden board instead not to see the other side. That brought an immediate result on it. She was not interested in there at all.
July 22
		She began to act again after a short time rest. The spring tide also will begin from the next day. My expectations rise.
July 24
		I felt her acting reached the final step because she didn't come to go anywhere far. I tried to take her the park again. But pruning of hydrangea has just finished and grasses also were cut neatly. Kurumi tried and went to only the back of flower bed that I didn't want her to go when I let her go there she returned soon no matter how many times I brought her back. It is very bright even at night and crowded there because of an oasis to rest for people and the entrance to shopping mall. It is different from the place where Kurumi had laid eggs before. I couldn't feel the mood she looked like lay eggs at all. When I stand in Kurumi's shoes, she doesn't have any place to hide herself. I thought that it might be not her favorite place. So I returned to home with her soon.
July 25
		It was the last day of the spring term. Her action was getting calmer little by little. I had nearly gave up. On the other hand, I also tried to seek another place for her as I learn there is a low probability of her laying at the park. the place I selected for her next is a children's playground located in a quiet residential area where is other side from the station. It is a small playground and it is a little farther than the spot mentioned previously. When I went there to make sure in advance, there were not any good spots in the playground. But I found a small part with glasses in the path of the side of it.It was quite because the place a little tucked away on busy bus route. She was completely quiet in the water of a container when I returned home. But she looked up at me and showed as if she had asked me for something every time I came near her. When I tried to take her out of water, she had gone to the balcony. But she was very quiet. She were sitting on the pot of spider plant when I went there to see what she was doing. She only sat on it. She didn't dig there. But judging from my experience, there is a high possibility it's a sign of laying eggs.when she is on the flower pot without moving. It looks as if she says "Take me somewhere like this, please !"Then I took her to the playground I just checked in the daytime. I tried to let her go at the part of playground near the grass growing spot beside the path I selected in the daytime. She didn't like the inner part of playground with less grasses, I expected. And she went through a fence, fell down from a low difference in level, and has gone to the area of side of path growing grass. And she settled down on the foot of part growing higher grass after she selected her favorite spot carefully there for 5-10 minutes. When I had looked intently at it shoving grass aside as it is too dark to see well. I could see that she had dug the ground by her front legs. This is a sign of "she says that she decided to lay eggs there" Soon she began to dig there by also her back legs. I heard the roots of glass being cut. This means for me that I need to stay at there until her has finished laying all of eggs, about 2 hours. But my feeling in this situation is always very glad one as she will lay egg at last rather than hardship of it. She took a long time, about one and a half hours to dig carefully a deep hole there, After then she began to lay eggs at last.l time. She is a methodical and sensitive turtle. Compared with Kamemi that had laid eggs one after another speedily and smoothly, the interval that Curium lays egg is very long. It is her characteristic when she lays eggs. She laid 10 eggs slowly. After then I allowed her to backfill for about 10 minutes at that place, and brought her back to home. Ｓｈｅ kept making a movement of backfilling in the water carefully until she was satisfied with it even after she returned to home. This is the place where kurumi has laid eggs this time. It is the spot with tall grasses, middle of this photo. I brought back 6 eggs out of 10 eggs she laid. I couldn't bring all of them back because some had broken, and the hole was too deep to pick them up.
