The report of Kurumi's egg-laying 2013 , 2014
2015,

Below is about our red eared slider, Kurumi's the forth time egg laying.
May 22
Some signs of egg laying appear at the first time in this year suddenly.
It's like this from 5 a.m. every morning.

Then she basks on the leaves of
thyme or spider plants sitting there
after bustling in the room.
The temperature of this year tends to be high since winter
and some seasonal flowers also began to bloom earlier than usual generally.
It was also a little earlier that the sings of Kurumi's egg laying can be seen.

It was just the beginning of spring tide when I checked tide by the list to make sure.

This time her gesture of scratching on the floor was be seen unusually.
But she stopped the activity after about 10 days and began rest time.
June 15
Her activities for egg laying started again.
She came to go out from water and act wildly from early in the morning.
As far as I have experiencedAthere are some features of the time when Kurumi lays eggs.
At first, she still doesn't lay eggs at the time of running around in wide area or not to be able to see
the gesture for digging.
And there is some possibility of laying eggs when her active area becomes narrower, and
she stays at the same place and the time of the gesture for digging is getting longer
So I try to bring her to outside to wait and see.

She has little possibility to lay eggs when she still goes around at a wide area even if I wait and see
her about 5-10 minutes after letting her go loose outside. So I take her home soon.
She begins to dig the ground as soon as letting go when she is willing to lay eggs.
So it is useful for me to trying to take her out as a guide.
But she had no signs of digging out of house yet.

July 4
I got to feel some changes of her appearance from a few days ago.
She came to sniff the floor in the room or the balcony.
This is a sign that she is looking for the place to lay eggs in good earnest.
It was very hot day. It was the good climate for egg laying. She was basking to warm herself
at the balcony in the daytime. All requirements seemed to be satisfied. in addition to them, it was the day
of spring tide. I tried to take her out, to the backyard of the condominium we live where she laid eggs
last summer. And then she began to dig just the same spot as she laid eggs last year after running
around with sniffing to look for the place for about 5 minutes as expected.
And she dug in the ground there for about one and a half hours and made quite a deep.

But a very black cat was coming close Kurumi when I took my eyes off her.
This black cat was interested in her from the first at this time.
And I thought it had already gone because I couldn't see it any more after I drove it away.
But it seemed to wait and see us somewhere and aimed at Kurumi.
So she stopped acting for laying eggs at all despite of just before laying eggs after making a deep hole.
It was the first experience for me that cat aimed at our turtles while digging in the outside.
I felt sorry for Kurumi. And that let me down, too. I've been scared as I watched the scene
that a Japanese pond turtle became the prey of a raccoon on a feature TV program on
Japanese pond turtle just a few days ago.I knew as much about risks in outside.
After then her activity had settled down at all. She looked to wait the time of next spring tide.
July 14
She began the activity again
after 10 days from then.
I could surely know that from some signs,
for example coming out from water
early in the morning, wanting to go out,
climbing to flower pots and so on.

The flower of with thyme above received damage,
The appearance is entirety horrible like this.
July 20
As I felt the right time has come, I took her to the nearby park when the number of dogs
taking for a walk gets fewer in the evening.
Then she began to make a hole and laid as many as 12 eggs after digging for about 3 hours there.

I was very surprised at the number of eggs. Because she had never laid more than 2-3 eggs before
and she had a good appetite relatively, so I thought she didn't have so many eggs probably.

Kamemi had laid eggs one by one quickly and
smoothly and finished doing soon.
But Kurumi lays eggs very slowly and
it lakes a long time for her to finish all.
Sometimes eggs are likely to draw back.
She is very sensitive.
So I need to pay attention to her.

A lot of eggs.
Some of them have broken already.
After washing at home
The weight was 133g in total.

She still continued to act for digging wholeheartedly for about an hour even after coming home.
It is her special feature to act for digging until she is satisfied.
By the way, it was also the day of spring tide.
