The report of Kurumi's egg-laying : 2013,
2015.

The report of the second laying eggs of Kurium in 2014 is as follows.
The 1st time
July 2014

Red-eared slider, Curium who has been restless several days began to take an action for egg-laying.
She began to scratch mats of Japanese style room. this day

I put her on the newspaper covered
on the tatami mat not to be broken
the tatami mats.
So she began scratch there soon.
I am bothered because she scratches the papers
after making them to become wet to be make soft.
This is one of her peculiarities because Kamemi
didn't do so.

The I took her to the neighboring field
to spur her progress of the egg-laying.

We came to this area where
I took also Kamemi many years ago.
Now it has been changing to a residential area here
quickly and has been also decreasing fields
regrettably

Kurumi began to walk and tried
to enter into the thicket of the grass in a roadside.
I needed to be watch her carefully not to loss her.

After a while, she stopped and began to dig there
by the fore leg. Then she did also by the back leg

She made a deep hole like this there.
But she looked not to be pleased with it.
She gave up digging and began to walk again.
So finish here this day.

Such an animal appeared from the grassy place.
It is a pheasant, a bird which appears in Japanese
old tale"Momotaro"
They look to make a nest around here.

July 21

Also the next day, she looked to be busy from the morning with scratching the newspapers
in Japanese room. So I took her to the same place as we went on the previous day.
After we arrived there, she She hid herself in the shadow of leaves soon and began to
dig there. And she made a deep hole there also this day. But she gave up doing again.

July 24
The sphere of her activity at home became narrower and narrower.
And she came to scratch only one area of floor.

She wanted to get into a bag for going out like the
right photo as Kamemi also did before
So I decided to take her to the outside again.

We came this grass-grown area along a path.
I selected this area because I think that I can keep
her from dogs and their owner for a walk
though there seem to be many insects

She entered grassy place and dig there as soon as
she came out of a bag.
And she began to dig here soon
and made a quite deep hole again.

Then she began to lay eggs before long.
At first one egg.

And one more.
Can you eggs in the bottom of a hole?

But she already began to fill there
as soon as she laid 2 eggs.

She filled and treaded the soil down hard
by her back legs

After then she cover there with grasses and straws
that she gathered from around as it was before
We can't see her digging marks at all there.

I tried to make her stop filling to go home because I couldn't wait for her finishing.
So he said "No !" with kicking as soon as I tried to put her in the bag.
She still made a gesture of filling for about an hour at the balcony even after she came back home,
Her prudence characteristic has appeared also in such a point. It differs from Kamemi's one at all.

2nd time
August 2

She has settled down after the last egg-lying. But She does not eat
so much yet in spite of having laid eggs. So she start acting for egg-lying again
as I expected that she probably had still more eggs.
She tried to get into the bag for going outside. She seems to memorize that
she can go to a field when she gets into it. She has a good memory.

I decided to take her to a field frequently to help her egg-laying smoothly
as long as time allows. But only in the morning or after 5:00 in the evening,
because it is too hot daytime
The places where she laid eggs last time were good conditions for us
because there was no fear of the dogs and persons under walk approaching
and I could watch her easily. So I went to the same spot with her again.
But glass grew so thickly that I couldn't watch not to miss her there
during only about 10 days. Then I changed the place.

I took her this path along a brook next.

Kamemi also used to come to the same area
along this brook and laid eggs there many years ago.

There is a small brook beyond the fence.
Turtles may be able to know the waterside is close
from the sound of the flow.

Kurumi looked to be pleased with there
and had stuck to the fence and tried to clime there.

But the soil was very dry and
it is full of gravels there.
It is hard to dig a hole.

We gave up this day after all.

Going to the field was our dairy task after then. But she didn't lay eggs though
she dug

August 8

I chose the spot where grass is not high comparatively to to release her this day.
it's near the spot where she laid eggs last time.
I took her the grassy area next, the right part of the photo.

This is a good place for me to watch Kurumi
because there is a wall
and it's also easy to dig a good hole for Kurumi
because the soil is moderately moist.
She settled one spot
and began to dig there
after she walk around there
for a while
to find a good place.

she spent long time to dig a hole
carefully.

Then she began to lay eggs there.
and 3 in all
