Seeing turtles(19)
Boso Peninsula, Mother Farm (Chiba)

A big statue of Goddess of Mercy appeared on the top of the hill over there when we are driving at Boso Peninsula, Chiba.

I remembered my seeing a similar statue to this from the dropping spot also when we took part in a walking event near here before.
(The photo below)
And we went near it. So there was such a big statue that overlooks Tokyo Bay from the top of the hill. The name is Tokyo Bay Goddess of Mercy.

We found the figure of Taro Urashima sitting on the turtle's back who is a hero of Japanese old fairy-tale
. (It is Rip van Winkle of Japanese version.)

Why is there turtle here?
Because the figure is
the work of the person who made a prototype of this statue of Goddess of Mercy.

The part of the lyrics from song of Taro Urashima is written on the slate.

When we tried to cross the bridge in the way, turtles sitting on the four corners of the rail in the bridge. came into view suddenly.
So I took pictures of those.

In looking it up later, I learned that
they were bronze statues of turtle as a messenger of shine located along the river that this bridge is built over it.
And they say that this bridge is commonly known also as "turtle bridge"among locals.

We unexpectedly met turtles at as many as 2 locations this day. It was lucky day !

We took part in the walking event to walk about 9 km aiming at Mother farm in Chiba from the station.

When we went along the mountain pass, the view like this appeared. We could see
Kannon, Buddhist deity of mercy standing on the mountain over there.

They say that this ruin of castle has another name as "turtle's castle", because it looks turtle's shape from the sky. So the table for stamps were prepared there (upper right), and we could affix the stamp of turtle.(Lower right)

The goal spot of the walking event, "Mother Farm" is a dude ranch in Boso Peninsula of Chiba.
You can see also African spurred tortoise and Leopard Tortoise.
They are in the petting zone.
So you can see them also with other animals without a fence.
