Turtle's town, Kameido/Part 3 (Tokyo)

This is the pond of Kameido Tenjin Shrine.

A lot of turtles were coming to us with the sound tapping on the water surface when we scattered the pellet food we brought for them, and a crowd
of turtles appeared in front of us in no time.

It looked that there were also many reeves turtles though many of them has red ears of course.

This is the guardian deity of children called "ojizo-sama"in Japanese.

The combination of the gentle looks of ojizo-sama and a cute turtle.
The relaxed atmosphere makes our heart warm.

This unique"0jizo-sama" is called "yokukame jizo. "Yokukame" means "chew well" and "Kame of yokukame" also means turtles in Japanese.
This is the guardian deity for the health of children's teeth.

The day when we visited there was was the first day of dental healthy week in Japan by chance.

These are the rice crackers in which much fortune was got blocked.
Its name is "Kamekichi.

"Kamekichi" is also the most popular name for turtles as pet in Japan.


In the bag, a rice cracker shaped turtle, another rice cracker like the fortune cookie with the paper fortune inside and two of chocolate balls imitated a beckoning cat called 'manekineko' by picture on its wrapping are contained together.


When I broke the fortune rice cracker, the paper of "excellent luck"
was coming out.

This is Kameido Umeyasiki.


The trade mark, a turtle and a flower of plum is on the paper lantern at the gate of it.

And we can find a turtle also here on the roof tile of wall.
It 's a kind of old and traditional Japanese turtle with seaweed growing on its back called "minogame"
We can notice a ear on the face of this turtle when we see it carefully.

We can buy also turtle's items like ornaments, stuffed toy of turtles.

It was the fresh fine weather before the beginning of the rainy season on that day..

This is the mechanical turtle of the monument in a station square to show the water level of Arakawa River.


It was at such a low place just above the ground that we needed to look in it. So we could see it well.

According to the explanatory plate, the turtle is imagined the turtle which makes its face remove from a river.
